"Where Football is more than Football"
Lancs FA number MYU00597
Cherrybrook FC was formed in 2007. Since that the time the club has grown rapidly and is now the largest football club in Wigan. We play in a number of different leagues including the Wigan League, Warrington league, Skem league, Bolton and Bury, St Helens, Salford league.
We are a registered charity and are a Charter Standard Community club. We are sponsored by Nike and the Link Club for Wigan Athletic. We are proud of both our talent development (Over 60 of our players have signed contracts with professional clubs) and the social skills which our players gain from playing for our club. We play our matches at our home facility at Laithwaite Park in Wigan.
We believe that sport can brighten up children's life and give them the confidence and social skills to take into the outside world.
Cherrybrook FC is a recently formed football club by a group of parents who decided that they wished to see a different approach to children's football. In the past, some clubs have seemed to be dominated by managers shouting criticism at the children, arguing with referees and falling out with opposition supporters, whilst the children were overlooked and we felt that this was not the right example or approach. We top the behaviour and sportsmanships tables, for our players, officials and supporters in the leagues in which we participate and more than this we have been able to prove, that our approach of encouraging and assisting players need not be detrimental to success. (see our club history)
The first team which was formed in 2007 went on to win the Highfield Grange silver Jubilee tournament and from this, the cherrybrook club was formed with firstly an under 9's team, followed by an under 7's. The club now has at the last count 35 representative teams at various levels from under 6 to under 16.
The teams currently play in the Skem league and the Warrington League. Club training takes place at the soccerdome on a tuesday evening between 5:00and 6:00 to which all the squads are invited.
Despite only forming in 2007 the club has already developed excellent relations with a number of premiership clubs including Manchester United, Bolton, Blackburn, Burnley, Manchester City, Wigan Athletic, Everton and Liverpool and a large number of cherrybrook players attend their academies. (see club news). We strongly believe in the concept that every child should be given the opportunity to develop to their full potential, even if this is, at times, is detrimental to our club.
